Another terrific meal
I imagine that by now some of you who have preconceived ideas about Taipei might be changing your minds. Its true that when we first came here to visit Jonathan who was spending his junior year of college studying here, it was a very different place. The city was difficult to navigate unless you spoke Chinese, so it was impossible for us to get around by ourselves. There was a lot of air pollution and the sky was covered in a cloud of smog. It was a pretty unappealing place with very little charm. Even the famous National Palace Museum was dark and dingy without any English signage.Things have changed dramatically over the past 24 years since our first visit. The air is clean, the rapid transit system is fantastic and easy to navigate, the architecture is exciting, and the museums, street signs and many shops now offer both Chinese and English.Taiwan's cuisine has always been world class. Now, in addition to classic Chinese cooking, restaurants are offering fusion cuisine and doing it wonderfully well. A perfect illustration of this is the meal we enjoyed at VVG Restaurant. (For any new readers, let me repeat: VVG stands for Very Very Good. Really.) Below are photos of some of the innovative dishes created by chef Fancia Haung. Make sure to watch the video of the shaken salad.
